In the world of competitive youth sports, a silent epidemic is spreading. We see it on the fields every weekend: a maniacal focus on the scoreboard above all else. This philosophy, “The System,” is obsessed with immediate results, with trophies for pre-teens, and with collecting short-term ‘Ws’ at the expense of a player’s long-term future. At California Football Club, we are declaring war on that outdated, broken system. Our mission isn’t to create teams that win 8-0. It’s to develop the player who will make the game-winning assist in a championship final ten years from now. We understand that long-term development and winning a U-11 tournament are rarely compatible goals.
